Epilepsy is a curable disease. Many famous personalities have suffered from epilepsy. People suffering from epilepsy should never drive because an epilepsy seizure can cause an accident killing driving person as well as all the passengers in the vehicle. Epilepsy is caused by malfunctioning of brain cells. In this disease, patient may suffer from epileptic seizures from time to time. These epileptic seizures can be of many types. Epilepsy is more common in children than elders. It is necessary to control Epileptic seizures because they can result in permanent brain damage and can even cause death in some cases.
It is necessary to discuss about some of the causes of epilepsy. It is some times cause by changes in some brain enzymes. These changes of brain enzymes results in abnormal activation of some brain areas causing seizures. It can also be caused by abnormal changes in brain cells. It can be inherited just like diabetes and high blood pressure. It can be cause by brain tumor as well; that is why an MRI scan is often recommended after diagnosis of epilepsy. Some drugs, toxic materials, blood, liver and kidney diseases can also cause epilepsy.
Epileptic seizures can be divided into two scales.
1. Small scale Epileptic Seizures
2. Large scale Epileptic Seizures.
Small scale seizures can be causes by fever often in children. Often such epilepsy seizures are over after fever is gone. However if the fever is not taken care for too much time, then such seizures can result in epilepsy disease. This type of seizure is common in children. In this seizure, patient eyes become still, body movement stops. Some time body start to shake. After this seizure is over, patient don’t even knows what has happened to him.
In large scale seizures, patients body becomes still, eyes turn to white. Liquid starts to come from patient’s mouth. Face turns blue. If patient was standing then it drops on ground. After such seizure, patient feels severe fatigue and headache. In some forms of epilepsy, patient starts to behave abnormal like becoming angry, starts to break things, feels strange smell or thinks as if he is in a dream. This type of epilepsy is called complex epilepsy.
For treatment of epilepsy, it is necessary to know about the exact condition of the patient during seizures. For this purpose, a seizure witness is often needed because the patient usually forgets every thing about his seizure. A CAT scan or an MRI scan of patient’s brain is often conducted before the treatment of epilepsy. If a brain tumor is found then the patient is redirected to appropriate physician.
Important Precautions: Epilepsy patients should continue their treatment as per doctor’s advice and should not reduce of upgrade their dosage without doctor’s advice. There should never forget to take their medicine because gap of a single dose can cause them to restart the whole treatment.
Patient should write his address and his doctor’s address on a card and should keep it in his pocket for emergency situations. Epilepsy patient should avoid Fire, deep water, heights and dangerous places because an epileptic seizure cannot be predicted.
Epilepsy patient should avoid flash lights and to quick motion pictures because such things change normal brain behavior.

No there is no cure for it. I was born with epilepsy and had few as a child but am beginning to experience more recently. If your cousin is beginning to have recurring seizures it is probably a good idea to be put on medication to control it and neccessary to continue to take it to keep it under control.

Although most of this article is poorly written, there is “A” cure for seizures/epilepsy with the Ketogenic diet. Most doctors chalk it up as an old treatment (right up there with blood letting) in favor of more “modern” medical options. Here’s a brief summary of the more “modern” medical options:
1. first anti-seizure medication
2. second anti-seizure medication
3. more mixtures of anti-seizure medication
4. brain surgery
5. (usually as the last resort) ketogentic diet
HELLO!!! You’d think the least NON-invasive option would be first and not last.
Now I know first hand (walking through this with my own son now 2 years old) that the diet is very strict -but you know what- he’s not on any medications anymore, and his seizures are dramatically dropping…we are having more seizure control on the diet than with all the medications he’s been on combined!
Research “Ketogentic Diet”…Google it…

A cousin of mine is suffering from epilepsy. He is having epileptic seizures while sleeping. I am not sure which stage it is, but it looks like his seizures are very serious. we have to take him to the hospital many times. Then the doctor recommended a medicine but he says that my cousin has to eat the medicine for life time. Why is it so? isn’t there one time solution for epilepsy?
